How Seth got his name

Susan and I both read through a book of 50,000 boy names and we each compiled a list of our favorites.  We each has about a dozen, which we narrowed to our top 3 favorite.  We then compared lists, and to our surprise, we didn’t agree on a single name.  Lucas was Susan’s favorite, and Merrick was mine.  Susan didn’t want anything weird, yet I didn’t want anything common.

With the due date rapidly approaching, neither of us was budging.  We decided to wait until after junior was born and see what name would fit him best.

After Susan pushed for 3 hours with little progress her doctor decided to perform a C-section.  Once the decision was made they wheeled her into the O.R. while tossing a set of scrubs to me.  My orders were to change into the scrubs and then wait until the staff was ready for me in the O.R.  That was the worst 10 minutes of my life.  I tried very hard not to imagine the worst, but I couldn’t help myself.

Then they finally came for me, and once I saw the interior of the O.R. I freaked out even more.  My job was to sit on a stool at Susan’s head and keep her calm.  There was no way that I was going to be able to do it.  I had to do something as I was about to lose it.  I looked up at the wall so Susan wouldn’t see my face.  My eyes were drawn to a large clock on the opposite wall.  And although the brand name was in a significantly smaller typesize then the numbers, the name stood out as if it were done in neon:  Seth Thomas.

Unnamed Beaman arrived at 8:17PM.  It took a long time to coax him into the world, but he’s finally here.  He is 10 pounds, 21.5 inches long.  He has his mother’s eyes and his father’s hair - and lots of it.  The family is all very tired, so we will be calling it a night soon.  I will try to get a couple pictures posted yet tonight.

Roses are red,

Violets are blue.

Susan’s giving birth,

and Bush dodged a shoe.

Well, here we are…

We checked into the hospital at 7:10.  They have started a pitocin IV drip and have broken Susan’s water.  It is now 8:40, and Susan is taking a nap.  Cannot get a definitive answer on how long from the start of the pitocin until delivery as everyone is different.  I guess the range is from 3 hours up to a day.
